One of the favorite movies of my childhood was “The Muppet Movie” of 1979. It featured the song “Moving Right Along” sung by Kermit, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang. It was a song about following your dreams to the future. Here at FWBC I want that to be our theme song for the coming months and years.
Over the past few weeks I have made efforts to connect with our community. I have met with Councilman Geoff Paddock, the director of the Associated Churches of Fort Wayne, Ben Gates, leaders of the other churches that meet in our building and more. We will be participating in the Welcome Back Picnic for Campus Ministries at the end of the month and I hope we can get a team of walkers together for the Walk to Fight Suicide on September 30th. We have a new logo, will be trying out new bulletins and worship format on the first Sunday of August, and have a new website by the end of the month.
I cannot do this alone. If we want FWBC to reach our community, we must be engaged in it. That may be things associated with the church or it may be things you can do with your neighbors. Churches tend to turn inward as they age. We are nearly two centuries young. We cannot look backwards. What used to be is memory. Our challenge is to see the world around us as place of opportunity for the Kingdom of God.
The past is merely prelude to our future.
Moving right along.
